Blasting Performance Optimization and Cost Reduction

The case study emphasizes the critical role of drilling and blasting in overall mining costs and introduces technology-driven solutions to achieve pattern expansion and optimized blast designs.

Key methodologies include:

Simulation and Design: Using O-PitSurface software to predict and calibrate fragmentation models based on site-specific conditions.
Data Acquisition: Drones and photogrammetry analysis are employed to generate accurate orthophotos for particle size distribution analysis with WipFrag.
Rock Factor Calibration: Utilizing a GRG non-linear optimization algorithm for precise fragmentation predictions.
Pattern Expansion: Incrementally refining blast parameters to maximize results while maintaining control over deviations and fragmentation limits.

The results demonstrate substantial cost savings of $229,361 and the efficient blasting of over 605,000 m³ of rock, achieved through optimization techniques.
